Citywide Clergy Endorse Bill Thompson for Mayor

In a showing of the strong support Bill Thompson has across New York City, many clergy members joined with Bill today at City Hall to announce their endorsement of his 2009 mayoral campaign. Among those who stood with Bill were clergy from congregations both large and small, and leadership from various clergy organizations throughout the city, including the Latino Pastoral Action Center, the Baptist Ministers’ Conference of Greater New York & Vicinity, and the Bronx Clergy Task force.

“We need a man that’s a part of our city, wholives in our city and grew up in our city. He’s the man for the times, we areNew Yorkers for Bill Thompson,” said Reverend Frederick Crawford, Union Grove Baptist Church.

Bishop Angelo Rosario, Church of God’s Children, stated, “One of the greatest things I have found about Bill, is that I can call him Bill. He has always had an open door policy for everyone. This is not about religion, it’s about all of us coming together to heal our community.”

“Let me thank the many religious leaders who aresupporting my candidacy for Mayor of New York City. It’s a group thatunderstands we need change in NewYork, we need a new Mayor who will stand up and fightfor all New Yorkers,” said Thompson. “I look forward to continuing to work with all of them, not just over the next four months during this campaign, but over the next eight years as the Mayor of New York.”
