Civic Center Residents Coalition Endorse Bill Thompson for Mayor

The Civic Center Residents Coalition, representing Chinatown residents and businesses, announced their support for Bill Thompson for Mayor. The group was founded after 9/11 in response to street shutdowns, parking issues, and other policies that negatively affected businesses and the quality of life in the Chinatown and Civic Center areas.

CCRC sited Bill Thompson's support for the reopening of Park Row which has choked off Chinatown's main artery and has turned the street into a parking lot for city workers. The Bloomberg administration's Chatham Square Reconstruction plan has also been a point of concern to the community. CCRC along with many people in the Chinatown area have continually objected to the lack of public involvement in the project and believe that these practices are indicative of the Bloomberg Administration's regressive policies toward Chinatown. Bill Thompson, on the other hand has consistently supported small businesses and residents of Chinatown and Lower Manhattan.

Thompson said, "I am honored to have the support of the Civic Center Residents Coalition. They, like so many people across the five boroughs, feel that they deserve more than the failed policies of the Bloomberg administration. Now, more than ever, New Yorkers need a mayor who will take back the city for our middle and working class families. I look forward to working with the Civic Center Residents over the coming months to share my vision for New York."
