New York Workers Coming Together To Support Bill Thompson
Posted By: Team Thompson on 06-10-09
Two unions representing over 18,000 New York workers officially endorsed Bill Thompson for Mayor in 2009 today.
The International Association of Machinists District 15, representing over 12,000 drivers, mechanics and other trades, stood with Bill Thompson and endorsed him for mayor. “We don’t believe Michael Bloomberg is in touch with the working families of our union,” said council representative Jim Conigliaro. Conigliaro concluded: “We’re endorsing Bill Thompson for Mayor because he knows the issues facing working families and he will fight for good-paying jobs, affordable housing, and a quality education for our children. Bill Thompson has always supported labor and we are proud support his campaign for mayor.”
The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 94 represents over 6,000 - and also stood up for change today:
Kuba Brown, President of the union said “On behalf of Local 94 and its thousands of members, it is my great pleasure to endorse Bill Thompson for mayor. As mayor, Bill Thompson will continue to fight for New York’s working class, he will protect workers by enforcing the prevailing wage, and he will recognize the needs of all New Yorkers, not just the privileged few. Given the current state of our city and the challenges we are facing our members need and deserve an advocate like Bill Thompson in City Hall.”
We're proud to have the support of the District 15 and Local 94 -- and will keep working to make sure New York has Mayor who fights for interests of working families.
